With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting our Alaska communities in significant ways, The Alaska Community Foundation’s Affiliate communities have demonstrated leadership in meaningful ways with local grantmaking. In April, The Alaska Community Foundation and Rasmuson Foundation announced a generous grant to each Affiliate community to support COVID-19 response and relief efforts locally. Each Affiliate received $10,000 to make critical, emergency grants that support local communities by meeting the needs of individuals and families around food security, senior and disability services, programs for children, homelessness programs, and local public radio.
The Kenai Peninsula Foundation was able to make the following grants in May 2020 to support nonprofits in their COVID-19 response efforts:
- Kenai Peninsula Food Bank – $5,000 for food security needs of individuals and families living on the Kenai Peninsula
- Love, Inc. – $5,000 for breakfast and hygiene program, meeting needs of individuals and families
